As a public benefit company, Waymark is chartered to improve healthcare quality, access and equity for patients receiving Medicaid benefits. A new study published in New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM) Catalyst demonstrates that, over the course of 2023, Waymark’s approach is working in service to that goal.
The peer-reviewed article summarizes how Waymark managed care for over 64,000 patients covered by two Medicaid health plans and nearly 2,300 providers across two states. The study found that Waymark:
- Achieved a 22.9% reduction in all-cause emergency department (ED) and hospital visits for patients receiving Waymark’s services (versus a matched, non-activated control group), including a 48.3% reduction in avoidable hospital visits and a 20.4% reduction in avoidable ED visits.
- Improved 7 of 9 HEDIS quality measures by an average of 11.8 absolute percentage points for the full study population within the calendar year
- Helped patients achieve over 63% of their chosen clinical and social goals.
The Waymark team is thrilled to see such impactful results emerging after our first year of service, and we look forward to sharing more about how we’re scaling this impact for more communities in the months to come.
